HERRIMAN, Utah – Real Monarchs SLC announced on Thursday it had acquired midfielder Chris Bermudez from USL League One side Greenville Triumph SC. Terms of the transfer agreement were not disclosed.

Bermudez made 24 appearances for Triumph SC in League One’s inaugural season and recorded three goals and two assists as the side reached the League One Final. The 20-year-old scored the decisive goal for Triumph SC in the Semifinals of the League One Playoffs as it defeated Lansing Ignite FC to advance to the Final.

A native of Union City, N.J., Bermudez is the second League One standout acquired by the defending USL Championship Title-holders this offseason after the Monarchs’ acquisition of former Richmond Kickers midfielder Joe Gallardo.

“Chris was a player that we identified as one to watch going into the 2019 campaign,” said Real Monarchs Assistant General Manager Tim Weaver. “We monitored him during the 2019 season with Greenville and identified him as one we thought could make an impact at the USL Championship level.

“He is a young, dynamic winger that loves to create chances. He was top 10 in chances created in League One, and we will look for him to bring those creative abilities to the Monarchs. We’re ecstatic to watch Chris have an impact on the field with the Monarchs and continue his development as a player from League One to the USL Championship.”

Prior to joining the professional ranks, Bermudez came through the New York Red Bulls Academy, and also spent time with Liga MX club CF Pachuca before joining Greenville for its inaugural season in 2019. He is the second Triumph SC player to be sold to a USL Championship side by the club this offseason following Kevin Politz’s transfer to Hartford Athletic.

“We're happy to have been a part of [Bermudez’s] development,” said Triumph SC Head Coach John Harkes. “Getting players ready to compete at the next level is a large part of our mission. Chris is going to an accomplished side in Monarchs, and it will be a great challenge for him. I want to thank him for all he contributed to our club, and we wish him the best in the Championship.”
