RENO, Nev. – Since Reno 1868 FC joined the USL Championship prior to the 2017 season, no Head Coach has overseen more victories that Ian Russell.
Twice named a finalist for the Championship’s Coach of the Year award, Russell has led his side to 52 victories in 104 games in the regular season and playoffs, while his squads have recorded more than 200 goals in a high-flying, attacking style that has brought plenty of excitement to Greater Nevada Field. Four Reno players have earned All-League honors, including Corey Hertzog this season after a career year saw him produce 18 goals in the regular season.
As his third season in the Biggest Little City in the World came to a close, Russell gave his thoughts on the path from the club’s inaugural season, why 1868 FC has been able to sustain its success year-on-year, and constructing a roster that will succeed on the field and offer the potential for advancement to the next level for players.
