LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Louisville City FC’s postseason record over the past three seasons may grab plenty of attention, but the venue for Sunday’s 2019 USL Championship Final – Lynn Stadium on the campus of the University of Louisville – has also been a home away from home for the side over recent seasons.

In addition to serving as the venue when LouCity claimed its second league title a season ago with a 1-0 victory against Phoenix Rising FC, Lynn Stadium has been the host for the club’s home games in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup over the past two years.

Starting with a 5-0 victory against USL League Two’s Long Island Rough Riders in the Second Round of 2018’s tournament, LouCity has earned six victories and not suffered a defeat at the venue in the Open Cup.

“We’ve really, really enjoyed it,” said LouCity defender Oscar Jimenez on Wednesday. “Even the Open Cup games, it’s so noisy and the fans are right on top of you, really close. You’re on the outside warming up to get in and the fans could literally reach their hands out and give you a high five.”

Arguably the most memorable of those victories was LouCity’s 3-2 win against the New England Revolution in the Fourth Round of the 2018 Open Cup. Jimenez was on the scoresheet that night, while Brian Ownby scored the winner in the 62nd minute to send the side through. It was part of Louisville’s deepest run in the tournament as they reached the Quarterfinals before falling on the road to the Chicago Fire.

With the arrival of the club’s new 11,700-seat home venue, named Lynn Family Stadium, for the 2020 season, Sunday could potentially mark the club’s final on-campus bow, but it’s one that the Jimenez and his teammates are looking forward to.

“I like that because it’s a soccer-specific stadium and you really get to hear the noise from the crowd from all sections,” said Jimenez. “Not just the Coopers, not just Scouse’s House, but the fans that are sitting right behind the bench, pretty loud and impressive.”
