OTTAWA – Ottawa Fury FC announced on Wednesday that it has mutually agreed to part ways with Head Coach Nikola Popovic.

Fury FC General Manager Julian de Guzman said it was a hard decision to make but was for the best for both Nikola and the club.

“I have a lot of respect for Nikola as a person and as a professional,” said de Guzman. “I would like to thank Nikola for his commitment to Fury FC and wish him success and good luck in his future endeavors.”

Popovic joined the club in 2018 after spending two successful seasons with the Swope Park Rangers. In two seasons as the Fury FC head coach, Popovic had a record of 27 wins, 25 losses and 16 draws in USL Championship regular season action. After missing the playoffs in 2018, Popovic and Fury FC were able to clinch their first trip to the USL Championship Playoffs, while Popovic led the side into the Semifinals of the Canadian Championship in both his seasons at the helm.

Fury FC will announce the next steps regarding the appointment of the next Head Coach in the near future.
