BIRMINGHAM, AL (Oct. 30, 2019) – Birmingham Legion FC announced today that midfielder Daniel Johnson has been recognized as the 2019 Legion FC Community Engagement Award winner.

Johnson, 24, assisted in the formation of Legion FC D-League, a developmental soccer initiative, by transitioning first team values and practices to the youth level. He also spent considerable time volunteering for events at Children’s Hospital, with the United Way, and the Red Cross, among other local charities.

Legion FC’s #14 was even busier this year on the field of play than he was in the community, as he was second on the team in appearances (34), and third in starts (29) and minutes (2,628). He was also tied for fourth on the squad in goals (4), second in chances created (42), fourth in shots (38), second in passes (1,152), sixth in interceptions (24), and tied for second on the team in tackles (54).

Two more 2019 Team Awards, Fans’ Choice Award presented by the Magic City Brigade, and MVP, will be announced this week. Johnson joins Mathieu Laurent, Prosper Kasim, and Mikey Lopez as award winners, with Kasim and Lopez winning the Golden Boot award and Defender of the Year, and Laurent being named Newcomer of the Year.
