Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC (18-4-11) will take on Birmingham Legion FC (11-14-7) at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday at BBVA Field. The Hounds posted a 4-1 result over Legion FC on June 29 at Highmark Stadium.

The Season So Far

Birmingham Legion FC currently holds the 10th seed in the Eastern Conference and is battling for a playoff position. With 40 points, the club currently hold the tiebreaker over the Charleston Battery for the last position in the postseason table.

At BBVA Field this season, Legion FC has posted a 6-6-3 record.

Birmingham has two games remaining on the year. Heading into Wednesday night’s match against New York Red Bulls II, the club has posted a 1-3-1 record in its last five games. Legion FC will wrap up its 2019 regular season slate against the Hounds on Saturday.

Players to Watch

21-year-old forward J.J. Williams leads Birmingham’s attack with seven goals on the year. Fellow striker Prosper Kasim is second on the team in scoring, with six goals and an assist through 31 appearances.

Matt Van Oekel has logged the majority of minutes in net for Legion FC. The goalkeeper has posted 73 saves and 11 clean sheets so far this season.

Strength: Defending

Legion FC’s defensive efforts have kept them in the playoff hunt this year. Birmingham has conceded 49 goals this year, and the club’s 12 clean sheets are tied for sixth most in the USL Championship.

Weakness: Scoring

Birmingham’s 33 goals this year rank fewest in the Eastern Conference. Additionally, the club’s 11 percent conversion rate on 385 total shots is also the lowest number in the conference.
