Rangers take third win in last four contests, down Legion FC

The Swope Park Rangers took victory on home turf against playoff contender Birmingham Legion FC to continue their good late-season form in Monday night’s USL Championship action.

SWOPE PARK RANGERS (3), BIRMINGHAM LEGION FC (1)

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Rangers won their third game in the last four outings as they took victory against Legion FC at Children’s Mercy Park. The hosts had a goal ruled out in the fourth minute when Wilson Harris was ruled offside, but the young forward opened the scoring three minutes later when his spinning heel-flick redirected a low cross by Alexsander Andrade from the left into the net. Birmingham’s Prosper Kasim fired an attempt at an equalizer just wide of the left post from the top of the penalty area shortly after, but in the 28th minute the Rangers doubled their lead from the penalty spot as Ayyoub Allach converted after Felipe Hernandez was brought down just inside the penalty area. Legion FC pulled a goal back just before halftime as JJ Williams headed in a free kick by Razak Cromwell into the bottom-right corner, but the hosts almost regained a two-goal advantage in the 62nd minute when Birmingham defender Akeem Ward redirected a free kick by Ze Pedro from the right off his own crossbar. Legion FC was reduced to 10 men with 14 minutes to go when Brian Wright was shown a red card, however, and three minutes later Ze Pedro fired home a low finish to the right corner from the left side of the penalty area to wrap up all three points for the Rangers.
