ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Saturday night’s clash between New Mexico United and Phoenix Rising FC is one of the two biggest games this weekend in the USL Championship, and with good reason.

For one, there’s eighth-place New Mexico’s ongoing bid to secure a place in the USL Championship Playoffs in its inaugural season, with the tightly-packed standings above and below the playoff line making every victory vital for the seven teams separated by five points sitting between seventh and 13 place in the standings.

Then there’s Rising FC’s bid to rewrite the USL Championship’s record book, where it still has the chance to set records for most regular season wins and points, while Solomon Asante and Zac Lubin take aim at individual goals over the final four games of the regular season.

But there’s another reason why Saturday night’s game is also an important one for both clubs; the winner is going to be in line to claim the Four Corners Cup.

With New Mexico hosting a blackout – and taking aim at another crowd of more than 15,000 fans at Isotopes Park – the atmosphere should be electric as the two rivals square off for the third time this season.
