It was a warm welcome to Boys ECNL play for the first Riverhounds Development Academy (RDA) teams to see league action in 2019-20.

The 2006 and 2007 Boys both picked up wins over visiting Western New York Flash sides Saturday at Montour Junction in Coraopolis, matches that highlighted a light weekend of action for RDA teams.

The 07 Boys, making their first appearance as a team in ECNL play, got a pair of goals scored on the full volley by Nicholas Scueglia, and JJ Vozar had a goal and an assist in a 3-0 win. Sam Wessel recorded the shutout by combining with a strong game by the defense in front of him, and only a handful of good saves by the Flash goalkeeper kept the Hounds from a bigger opening win.

The scoring was spread out by the 06 Boys, who got goals from Nick Allan, Jackson Suski, Ben Bigi, JJ Simms, Adam Thompson and Cameron Hernandez in a 6-1 win. The Hounds' biggest strength was down the middle of the park, as Thompson, Simms and Danny Stevens controlled the middle in front of a quality performance by goalkeeper Nick Cherry.

The RDA East also notched some good wins on the weekend, as the 2008 East Girls defeated another WNY Flash side Saturday, 5-1. On Sunday, the 2006 East Girls fell behind on the road but tightened up their defensive and midfield play to spark a 5-4 win at Ohio's Pro Soccer Club.

Results

Sunday, Sept. 15

• The 06 East Girls found themselves trailing early in Ohio against Pro Soccer Club, but tightening up their midfield and defensive shape allowed the Hounds to gain control of the match. The goals would come soon after as a result, and the RDA East side came home as 5-4 winners.

• The 07 East Girls also fell behind against hosts Pro Soccer Club, but despite creating a handful of scoring opportunities, they were unable to rally and fell, 3-1.

Saturday, Sept. 14

• Steevan Dos Santos tapped in a Kenardo Forbes cross in the 69th minute, and the Pro Team took a 1-0 victory over the Charleston Battery that keeps the Hounds squarely in the running for a home quarterfinal as they enter the final month of the regular season. Read more about the match HERE.

• The 07 Boys made their ECNL debut in victorious fashion, 3-0, over the Western New York Flash at Montour Junction. Nicholas Scueglia scored a pair of goals, both struck off the volley, and J.J. Vozar had a goal and an assist for the Hounds. The back line was stout in front of goalkeeper Sam Wessel to record the clean sheet, while the Flash got a strong goalkeeping performance of their own to keep the Hounds from further extending the lead.

• Also starting out on the winning foot were the 06 Boys, who were 6-1 winners over the WNY Flash. Goal scoring was spread out between Nick Allan, Jackson Suski, Ben Bigi, JJ Simms, Adam Thompson and Cameron Hernandez. The Hounds were strong down the middle of the park, as Thompson, Simms and Danny Stevens excelled as the spine of the team, and Nick Cherry turned in a quality goalkeeping performance.

• The RDA East teams in action experienced mixed results, as the 09 East Boys took a lopsided loss against SCS United, but the 08 East Girls were 5-1 winners against another Western New York Flash side.
