SAFC Looks to Earn First Win at Home Against OKC

San Antonio FC (9-11-7) will host OKC Energy FC (9-9-10) at Toyota Field on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 7:30 p.m. The match marks the 10th overall between the two clubs in regular season play as the Alamo City club looks to get back into a playoff position.

SAFC heads into the match after narrowly falling to league-leaders Phoenix Rising FC 0-1 at Casino Arizona Field last weekend. The Alamo City club will look to earn its first win at home against the Energy as they look to jump back into a playoff position from their current 13th place standing in the Western Conference. The club is currently just three points out of a top 10 position.

“We know now that in every game for us the points are super valuable, and we need to get them,” SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell said. “Everybody here is determined to make the playoffs, and Saturday night we need to make sure we come out focused on the task at hand and perform to the best of our abilities.”

OKC will look to earn three points on the road after falling 1-3 to New Mexico United last weekend. The Energy currently finds itself in 10th and in a playoff position and will fight to retain their position in search of their second win ever at Toyota Field. OKC has posted a 4-4-5 record on the road this season while scoring 42 goals and conceding 43 overall in 2019.

The match marks the 10th matchup overall between the two clubs. SAFC and OKC have played to a draw in seven occasions, most recently playing to a 1-1 draw at Taft Stadium thanks to a last-minute equalizer from midfielder Jack Barmby on June 15. The Alamo City club previously fell to the Energy on penalty kicks in the USL Championship Playoffs Western Conference Semifinal in October 2017, while they earned their only win against the club in regular season play on July 28, 2018.

Following the match at Toyota Field, SAFC will face two challenges on the road as the club visits LA Galaxy II on Friday, Sept. 20 and Tulsa Roughnecks FC on Wednesday, Sept. 25.
