Reno became the second side in less than a week to record five first-half goals as it broke a four-game losing streak with an emphatic victory against Tacoma Defiance.
RENO, Nev. – Danny Musovski had the second four-goal game in the Championship this season to lead 1868 FC past the Defiance at Greater Nevada Field. Reno took the lead in the fourth minute as a ball over the top by Brent Richards found Musovski, and the forward held off his marker in the right side of the penalty area and fired home at the near post. The duo connected again in the 26th minute as Richards’ cross from the right was headed home from eight yards into the bottom-left corner by Musovski, and a minute later Musovski added an assist as he played in Seth Casiple as he broke into the penalty area for a first-time finish. Musovski then completed a first-half hat trick on the half-hour mark as he took an angled pass by Corey Hertzog in the left side of the penalty area, cut back on his defender and fired into the right corner of the net. The Defiance had a chance to pull a goal back early in the second half from the penalty spot, but Justin Dhillon’s shot was denied by Reno goalkeeper Matt Bersano with a diving save to his left. Musovski almost notched his fifth goal of the night in the 67th minute only to be kept out by a good save from Tacoma goalkeeper James Lowell, and three minutes later Lindo Mfeka shot just over for the hosts after good work on the left by Duke Lacroix before he cut back for a shot from the top of the penalty area. Neither side found the net in the second half, however, as Reno cruised to victory and solidified third place in the Western standings.
