TAMPA, Fla. – The USL Championship announced on Thursday the five nominees for the USL Championship Player of the Month award for August, with top performers from the past month of the 2019 season selected for the ballot.

Voting in the USL Player of the Month Award will be conducted by the following three voting bodies:

  • A fan vote on USLChampionship.com will comprise 51 percent of the poll. The fan vote will run through Monday, September 9 at 12 p.m. ET.
  • The USL Technical Committee’s ballots comprise 25 percent of the poll.
  • The USL National Media Panel’s ballots comprise 24 percent of the poll.

The award winner and complete voting results will be announced on Thursday, September 12.

Please note: The USL Championship Player of the Month selections process in no way is tied directly to the voting and selection process of End of the Year awards such as USL Championship Most Valuable Player or position players of the year.

USL Championship Player of the Month – August 2019

Solomon Asante, Phoenix Rising FC – Asante recorded six goals and three assists across six victories for Rising FC, setting a league record for most combined goals and assists in a season with 34 through August.

Neco Brett, Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC – Brett recorded four goals and two assists in five contests as the Hounds took four wins out of five to move into range of a top-four finish in the Eastern Conference.

Jaime Chavez, Fresno FC – Chavez scored five goals in five appearances, while also registering nine chances created, to help drive the Foxes into second place in the Western Conference.

Cristian Parano, San Antonio FC – Parano recorded five goals and two assists in four appearances while also recording 15 chances created to keep San Antonio in the middle of the postseason race in the West.

Matt Van Oekel, Birmingham Legion FC – Van Oekel recorded 17 saves and three shutouts in five appearances as Legion FC recorded a second consecutive undefeated month to move into the Eastern Conference playoff positions.
