TACOMA, Wash. – Rising FC used three late goals to battle back and beat the Defiance at Cheney Stadium. The visitors got off to the perfect start inside the opening two minutes as Tacoma goalkeeper Bryan Meredith turned the ball over to Solomon Asante and the league leader in assists added to his tally, picking out Adam Jahn with a right-wing cross for the forward to head in off the inside of the post to give his side the lead. Asante came close to adding a goal of his own in the 18th minute but Meredith got behind his low shot from the edge of the penalty area. The Defiance nearly found their equalizer five minutes later when Alfonso Ocampo-Chavez’s strike from the right side of the box struck the crossbar behind Zac Lubin, but the Rising FC goalkeeper wasn't so lucky two minutes later when he gave away a penalty by taking down Ocampo-Chavez after the forward got behind the Phoenix defense and Shandon Hopeau sent him the wrong way from 12 yards to tie the game at one. Tacoma came inches away from taking the lead five minutes after halftime when Daniel Robles took a pass from Ocampo-Chavez at the top of the box and fired a shot off the post, but the hosts finally found their second goal in the 72nd minute when substitute Justin Dhillon got behind the Phoenix defense and squared across the face of goal for Handwalla Bwana to tap home from close range. Rising FC reacted quickly after going behind and turned the game around with three goals in a four-minute span, equalizing in the 81st minute when Asante headed home substitute Jon Bakero’s corner kick at the near post. Jahn grabbed his second goal of the game two minutes later, sweeping the ball home from in close after Kevon Lambert’s persistent run down the byline, and Junior Flemmings curled a fourth beyond the reach of Meredith moments later to ensure the streak survived another scare.
