HARTFORD, Conn. – Hartford Athletic celebrated a day that was about much more than soccer on Saturday as it welcomed the Puerto Rico National Team to Dillon Stadium for the first international exhibition in the first-year USL Championship club’s history.

In front of a near-capacity crowd of 4,685 fans, the Athletic and El Huracán Azul came together to raise money for hurricane relief efforts, as fans enjoyed a festive atmosphere that began well before kickoff and into the pregame ceremony.

After the game got underway, it was the hosts that held the upper hand against a Puerto Rico side that was missing some of its regulars, including current OKC Energy FC goalkeeper Cody Laurendi. The Athletic took the lead in the 25th minute as Wojtek Wojcik produced a lethal finish on a beautiful through ball from Sebastian Dalgaard.

Puerto Rico quickly answered two minutes later as Gerard Diaz put one away, and the back-and-forth first half ended all square at 1-1.

Using a good portion of its squad over the 90 minutes, Hartford pulled away thanks to four second-half goals that saw Brass Bonanza regularly ringing throughout Dillon Stadium. Jose Angulo put the hosts ahead for good in the 58th minute before Mads Jorgensen added a third 10 minutes later.

Dalgaard notched the fourth to add to his earlier assist with 18 minutes to go before Dan Bedoya wrapped up the scoring in the 86th minute to conclude the contest.
