17-year-old pens professional deal after breakout season with Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC announced on Thursday that Abraham Rodriguez has been signed to a USL Championship contract, pending league and federation approval.

Rodriguez has featured in eight games for the Switchbacks, making 33 saves, including two on penalty kicks. The 17-year-old goalkeeper made his debut on March 30, 2019 against Phoenix Rising FC. In that match, Rodriguez made 11 saves, including a penalty, en route to becoming the second-youngest player to be named the USL Championship Player of the Week in league history.

"Abe has been tested in USL throughout the 2019 season and has proven he is ready to be a full-time professional," said Senior Director of Soccer Development & USL Team General Manager Brian Crookham. "His performances to date and the maturity he has show gives us the confidence that there is much more to come from a goalkeeper so early in his professional soccer journey."

Rodriguez was previously on a USL Academy contract with the Switchbacks.
