HARTFORD, Conn. – Hartford Athletic announced on Tuesday it will play host to the Puerto Rico National Soccer Team for a special international exhibition on Saturday, August 17th at Dillon Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET.

“Connecticut is home to among the largest and most vibrant Puerto Rican populations, and we are so proud and excited to welcome the Puerto Rican National Team to Hartford in our inaugural season,” said Hartford Athletic Chairman and CEO Bruce Mandell. “It is our mission to bring our community together through the world’s game and what better way to do it than to host an international friendly that will be a celebration of Puerto Rican culture.”

The international exhibition will be the first in the Athletic’s history and will continue in a series of matches against clubs from all over the world that will take place each season. Puerto Rico has featured players from the USL Championship in recent years, including current OKC Energy FC goalkeeper Cody Laurendi and Tampa Bay Rowdies defender Shawn Barry.

Puerto Rico is currently preparing for play in the 2019-20 Concacaf Nations League, where it will face Guatemala and Anguilla in Group C in League C. The team opens at home to Guatemala on September 10.

Tickets for the match will go on sale in the coming days, with a portion of ticket proceeds going towards hurricane relief.
