EDINBURG, Texas (July 19, 2019) – Rio Grande Valley FC (5-9-5, 20 pts.) hosts Sacramento Republic FC (8-7-2, 26 pts.) at H-E-B Park  (tickets). The matchup is set to kickoff at 7:30 P.M. CST on  ESPN+ and Somos El Valle 5.2. The first 500 fans will receive an RGV FC Toros bag, giveaway item sponsored by Somos El Valle 5.2.

The past two games at home have not gone as planned for the RGV FC Toros but nothing has changed in the locker room as they remain positive about their growth as a team and the chances of chasing a playoff spot remain open.

Phoenix Rising FC was able to inch past the Toros in a 0-1 victory last Saturday night. The defensive effort was good throughout the match, a simple slip away action cost them a goal which caused them to lose their chance at earning points at home.

Sacramento Republic has historically been troublesome to the Toros. The South Texas affiliate of the Houston Dynamo has an overall record of 0-4-3 when facing Republic FC and a home 0-1-2 series record. Unable to earn a win against this side is extra motivation for RGV FC as they are very eager to fall back into the positive side of the standings and look to lock in their first victory over Sacramento.

Coming into this match, Sacramento has been able to find the back of the net on 25 occasions, nine of those have been scored by Cameron Iwasa. Despite Iwasa posing a considerable threat due to his scoring ability, a bigger threat to the defensive efforts for RGV is Sam Werner who has created a total of 33 chances and dished out 3 assists for Republic FC, making him the player to keep an eye on.

The goalkeeper for the visiting Sacramento side, Josh Cohen, has collected seven clean sheets this season and already racked up 35 saves prior to this week’s matchup. For RGV, Nico Corti has appeared in seven matches and has one clean sheet, with 21 total saves. Although his clean sheet record is not overwhelming, Corti has been solid at goal for the Toros and provides great communication and leadership in the defensive third.

Look for a clean and intense battle to ensue on the pitch this week as both sides are prepared to face off. The Toros have gone toe-to-toe with every team they have faced, and it will be no different this time around.
