LEESBURG, Va. – Loudoun United FC announced on Wednesday it had acquired midfielder Carlos Alvarez for the remainder of the 2019 inaugural season. Alvarez will be available for selection on Wednesday night as Loudoun visits North Carolina FC at Sahlen’s Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park (7 p.m. ET | ESPN3).

“Adding a player with Carlo’s pedigree and experience is a tremendous boost to the team on and off the field as we push for the playoffs,” said United Head Coach Ryan Martin. “He is an attacker who is very good scoring and creating goals. Even in his short time here he has been a great mentor to the younger guys and a key contributor in trainings. We are excited to welcome Carlos to Loudoun United.”

Alvarez joins Loudoun United after spending the 2018 season with the USL Championship’s Las Vegas Lights FC, where he recorded six goals and four assists. A native of Los Angeles, Alvarez was the No. 2 selection in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft by Chivas USA. He also competed in MLS for the Colorado Rapids, making 51 appearances in the league over three seasons.

In 2016 he joined the USL Championship’s San Antonio FC before joining Orange County SC for the 2017 season and Lights FC a season ago. Over his career, Alvarez has recorded 16 goals and 16 assists over 103 appearances in the Championship.

Before his professional career, Alvarez played collegiately at the University of Connecticut. Throughout his four years he achieved several accolades, including being named to the All-Big East team four seasons in a row, and earning All-American honors twice.
