Rising FC runs riot to claim 10th consecutive victory, equal USL Championship record

Phoenix Rising FC claimed its biggest victory of the season on Friday night with a 6-0 thumping of Austin Bold FC to match the USL Championship record with its 10th consecutive win and improve to 12-0-0 all-time on $1 Beer Night at Casino Arizona Field.

PHOENIX – Rising FC routed Bold FC to extend its winning streak to 10 games. The hosts opened the scoring in the 17th minute when right back Mustapha Dumbuya slid a pass into Solomon Asante, who took a touch at the edge of the area to set up a right-footed finish that beat Bold FC goalkeeper Diego Restrepo and nestled in the bottom-left corner. The visitors responded after going behind as Xavier Báez forced a diving save out of Rising FC goalkeeper Zac Lubin three minutes later and Austin came within inches of an equalizer on the half-hour mark as André Lima’s deflected effort looped over Lubin, who in tandem with Dumbuya and center back Joey Farrell cleared the ball off the line and eventually to safety. Lima was involved again seven minutes before the break as he provided an acrobatic volley to Valerii Saramutin’s right-wing cross, but Lubin was able to parry the effort wide. Rising FC doubled its lead nine minutes into the second half when Junior Flemmings cushioned a headed pass into the path of James Musa, who took a touch into the penalty area before blasting a left-footed half volley past a helpless Restrepo. Flemmings played provider again four minutes later, unselfishly squaring a pass across to Asante on a 2-on-1 break for the forward to cut inside the defender and curl a left-footed finish into the top-left corner for his second goal of the night. Phoenix continued to pour it on in the 66th minute when José Aguinaga won the ball in the attacking third and played Asante clean through on goal, but Restrepo saved the initial shot only for Adam Jahn to tap in the rebound at the back post. Things got even worse for Bold FC in the 73rd minute when Edson Braafheid was sent off for a high challenge on substitute Joey Calistri and Rising FC converted the resulting free kick with a routine off the training ground as Asante touched the ball into the path of Jon Bakero, who fired a shot into the bottom-right corner to make it 5-0. Calistri rounded out the scoring with six minutes remaining, nodding home Farrell’s headed pass from close range after the defender rose highest to meet Amadou Dia’s corner kick at the back post.
