10-man Ottawa locks down Red Bulls II in draw; ATLUTD2, Charleston postponed

The first of two games in the Championship on Friday saw New York Red Bulls II and 10-man Ottawa Fury FC play out to a 1-1 draw at MSU Soccer Park after the visitors went up a goal, down a man, and then level with New York, who could not find a second goal to cap off an offensive heavy night. Fury FC started off strong and went up through Carl Haworth's close range finish after 20 minutes, but Jérérmy Gagnon-Laparé's dismissal on a second yellow card in the 24th minute presented new challenges for the visitors. However, New York would only find one goal the way through when Kyle Zajec put home a Jared Stroud cross just before the hour mark. Elsewhere, two separate delays precluded an eventual postponement of Atlanta United 2's game against the Charleston Battery, with a makeup date still to be determined.

MONTCLAIR, N.J. – Ottawa Fury FC flexed their defensive muscles to grind out a 1-1 draw against New York Red Bulls II while playing down a man for over an hour on Saturday night. A physical encounter from the get-go, two Fury FC players went into the book within the opening 13 minutes including midfielder Jérémy Gagnon-Laparé as the visitors set the tone of the match. Twenty minutes in, Fury FC got their goal after a pair of Red Bulls II defenders collided when going for a ball which left Ottawa forward Carl Haworth one-on-one with RBII goalkeeper Evan Louro, who could not stop the club captain from opening the scoring. Four minutes later, though, Fury FC went down to 10 men when Gagnon-Laparé was shown a second yellow card for a high boot challenge in midfield. The visitors did well to get through to halftime against an attacking Red Bulls II side, but they could not keep the hosts off the scoresheet forever with midfielder Kyle Zajec slamming home a Jared Stroud pass to level the scoring in the 54th minute. New York would test Ottawa goalkeeper Callum Irving a few more times as it looked to capitalize on a man advantage, but Red Bulls II forward Vincent Bezecourt would only come close as he hit both the post and the crossbar on separate efforts that stayed out of the back of the net and Fury FC clung to a point on the road.
