Fury FC shot-stopper’s penalty-kick save against Hounds took top spot in online poll

TAMPA, Fla. – Ottawa Fury FC goalkeeper Callum Irving has earned the USL Championship Fans’ Choice Save of the Week for Week 14 of the 2019 season as his stoppage-time penalty kick save against Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC last Saturday night at Highmark Stadium earned him top spot in the weekly poll.

Fury FC had fought back from a two-goal deficit in the second half to even the score against the Hounds, but in stoppage time the hosts were awarded a chance to claim all three points from the penalty spot. Irving ensured Ottawa would take a hard-earned point from the game with a diving save to his right that kept out the effort of Pittsburgh’s Neco Brett, and in turn extended his side’s current undefeated streak to eight games.

Irving’s save earned 32 percent of the poll conducted online at USLChampionship.com that concluded on Friday morning. San Antonio FC’s Matt Cardone finished second on 21 percent for his near-post save on Reno 1868 FC’s Danny Musovski that helped the hosts earn a 3-2 win at Toyota Field, while OKC Energy FC’s Cody Laurendi took third on 19 percent for his close-range denial of New Mexico United’s Kevaughn Frater at Isotopes Park.
