Howell adds to Jamaican contingent in Phoenix, acquired from Nashville

HARTFORD, Conn. – Hartford Athletic announced on Wednesday evening the signing of USL Championship veteran Danny Barrera for the remainder of the 2019, pending league and federation approval. Barrera, a 29-year-old midfielder who was born in Colombia, has totaled 97 career USL Championship appearances. Barrera played for Sacramento Republic FC from 2015-2017 and continued his career in the Championship with Fresno FC in 2018.

He made 62 appearances scoring six goals during his time with Sacramento. Barrera, who is the Sacramento Republic all-time leader in assists with 16, was also named captain of the club during his time in California’s capital. 

Prior to his professional career, Barrera made multiple appearances with the United States U17 and U18 teams. Barrera attended UC-Santa Barbara for three seasons where he scored 10 goals and notched 22 assists in 66 matches.

RISING FC SNAPS UP HOWELL: Phoenix Rising FC announced on Thursday it had acquired midfielder Ramone Howell from fellow USL Championship club Nashville SC.

Howell, 24, hails from Jamaica and made four appearances for Nashville SC in all competitions since signing in with the club ahead of the 2018 season. Prior to joining Nashville, Howell had competed in USL League Two for the Des Moines Menace, where he helped lead the side to a Heartland Division title in 2016 while recording seven appearances for the club.
