CHICAGO – Saint Louis FC will play host to former USL Championship foe FC Cincinnati while New Mexico United will visit Major League Soccer’s FC Dallas in the Round of 16 in the 2019 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup after the draw was made on Thursday morning at the U.S. Soccer Federation’s Soccer House.
Both Saint Louis FC and New Mexico United are in the Round of 16 for the first time in their histories, with STLFC having earned its first victory against an opponent from Major League Soccer at its third attempt in the competition as it defeated the Chicago Fire 2-1 on Tuesday night at Harlen C. Hunter Stadium. Head Coach Anthony Pulis’ side will now get the chance to square off with Cincinnati next Wednesday night at World Wide Technology Soccer Park, which advanced to the Round of 16 after a 2-1 victory against defending USL Cup champion Louisville City FC at Nippert Stadium on Wednesday night.

New Mexico, meanwhile, has gone to extra time in each of its first three outings in its Open Cup history, and on Wednesday night advanced 4-2 in a penalty shootout against the Colorado Rapids after a thrilling contest ended in a 2-2 draw after 120 minutes at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. It will now get the challenge of facing a two-time winner of the tournament in FC Dallas next Wednesday night, which took a comfortable 4-0 victory on Wednesday night against the Championship’s OKC Energy FC.

The Charleston Battery will have the chance to join Saint Louis and New Mexico in the Round of 16 on Thursday night when it faces defending MLS Cup champion Atlanta United FC at Fifth Third Bank Stadium, with the winner of the contest set to visit Columbus Crew SC. The Battery last reached the Round of 16 in 2013 when it took Real Salt Lake to extra time at Rio Tinto Stadium before falling and still stands as the last lower-division club to reach the Open Cup Final in 2008.
