Earns second consecutive monthly award for fingertip save against Red Bulls II

TAMPA, Fla. – North Carolina FC goalkeeper Alex Tambakis has claimed the USL Championship Fans’ Choice Save of the Month for a second consecutive month, earning the honor for May of the 2019 season for his victory-saving denial late against the New York Red Bulls II at MSU Soccer Park on May 24.

The Greek shot-stopped came through with a handful of key saves as NCFC tried to hold onto its lead on the road against the Red Bulls II despite playing a man down over the final half-hour. His best stop of the night arrived late in the second half as he tipped a free kick by New York’s Jared Stroud bound for the top-right corner just over the crossbar to preserve all three points for the visitors.

Tambakis’ goal earned 49 percent of the poll conducted online at USLChampionship.com over the past weekend. New Mexico United’s Cody Mizell took both second and third place in the poll, with his denial of a one-on-one chance for San Antonio’s Brian Gomez on May 5 taking 30 percent and his fingertip stop of a header by Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC’s Mike Seth on May 18 earning 18 percent.
