Long-range blast against Orange County earned victory for Rio Grande Valley standout

TAMPA, Fla. – Rio Grande Valley FC defender Robert Coronado has taken the USL Championship Fans’ Choice Goal of the Week for Week 13 of the 2019 season for his exceptional long-range finish during the Toros’ contest against Orange County SC at Championship Soccer Stadium last Saturday evening.

Coronado’s first professional goal came in a familiar surrounding with the 22-year-old rookie having previously competed for Orange County SC U23 in USL League Two before joining the professional ranks this season. With the Toros’ trailing by a pair of goals late in the first half, Coronado stepped forward into space and unleashed a powerful strike from 30 yards into the top-right corner of the net to cut the visitor’s deficit in half.

Coronado’s goal earned 48 percent of the poll conducted online at USLChampionship.com that concluded on Thursday lunchtime. Louisville City FC’s Niall McCabe finished second on 31 percent for his pin-point free kick late on against the Charleston Battery last Saturday night, while Sacramento Republic FC’s Sam Werner finished third on 14 percent for his brilliant curled finish to the top-left corner from the top of the penalty area in a 2-1 win against San Antonio FC.
