TAMPA, Fla. – North Carolina FC goalkeeper Alex Tambakis has earned the USL Championship Fans’ Choice Save of the Week for Week 12 of the 2019 season, giving the Greek shot-stopper his second weekly honor of the season after his outstanding save against the New York Red Bulls II last Friday night at MSU Soccer Park saw him top the weekly poll.

With his side down to 10 men and facing pressure from the Red Bulls II as they looked for a late equalizer, Tambakis ensured NCFC took home three points as he got across to a curling free kick by New York’s Jared Stroud headed for the top-right corner of the net and turned it aside for a corner kick.

Tambakis’ save earned 54 percent of the poll conducted online at USLChampionship.com that concluded on Friday morning. Memphis 901 FC’s Jeff Caldwell finished in second place on 20 percent for his reaction save that denied the Swope Park Rangers’ Jake Davis on a finish that was headed to the bottom-right corner, while the Rangers’ Adrian Zendejas took third on 14 percent as he smothered a first-time chance from close range by the Tampa Bay Rowdies’ Sebastian Guenzatti.
