New Mexico goalkeeper takes third award of season for tipped save against Switchbacks

TAMPA, Fla. – New Mexico United goalkeeper Cody Mizell has earned the USL Championship Fans’ Choice Save of the Week for Week 11 of the 2019 season, giving Mizell his third weekly honor of the season as his fingertip save against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC last Saturday night at Weidner Field saw him top the weekly poll.

Mizell helped New Mexico move clear at the top of the Western Conference as he tipped a close-range header by the Switchbacks’ Mike Seth over the crossbar in NMU’s 3-1 road victory. Mizell leads the Championship with 41 saves this season and has played a key role in the first-year club’s success in his inaugural season.

Mizell’s save earned 63 percent of the poll conducted online at USLChampionship.com that concluded on Friday morning. El Paso Locomotive FC’s Logan Ketterer finished second on 14 percent for a low save to his right that denied Republic FC’s Stefano Bonomo last Saturday night, while Birmingham Legion FC’s Trevor Spangenberg finished third on 13 percent for his outstanding diving save against North Carolina FC’s Steven Miller.
