TAMPA, Fla. – San Antonio FC goalkeeper Matt Cardone has taken the USL Championship Fans’ Choice Save of the Week for Week 10 of the 2019 season for his reflex save against Orange County SC last Saturday night at Toyota Field that helped him record his third shutout of the season.
The local standout, and longtime fan favorite for San Antonio supporters, made a fantastic fingertip save to keep out a glancing header from Orange County’s Harry Forrester during the first half. Cardone’s three-save performance against OCSC moved him into seventh in the league this season with 27 saves overall.
Cardone’s save earned 45 percent of the poll conducted online at USLChampionship.com that concluded on Friday morning, narrowly defeating Phoenix Rising FC’s Zac Lubin on 43 percent for his double-save against Rio Grande Valley FC that saw him palm away an initial shot before guiding a rebound effort onto the post with his foot. The Portland Timbers 2’s Jake Leeker finished third for his point-blank denial of Tacoma Defiance’s Justin Dhillon at Cheney Stadium last Sunday.
