Outstanding long-range finish by Republic FC center back took top spot in weekly poll

TAMPA, Fla. – Sacramento Republic FC defender Mitchell Taintor has taken the USL Championship Fans’ Choice Goal of the Week for Week 10 of the 2019 season for his outstanding long-range finish in the club’s rivalry clash last Saturday night against Reno 1868 FC at Papa Murphy’s Park.

Taintor’s second goal of the 2019 campaign was a showstopper as he gathered possession near the center circle following a long clearance by Reno’s defense. The center back strode forward into a half-volleyed finish from 35 yards that sailed into the top-left corner of the net to stake Sacramento to an early lead. Taintor’s goal landed the No. 8 spot on ESPN’s SportsCenter Top 10 later that night.

Taintor’s goal earned 49 percent of the poll conducted online at USLChampionship.com that concluded on Thursday lunchtime. Loudoun United FC’s Connor Presley took second place with 37 percent for his powerful long-range finish on Friday night that set his side on its way to a comeback victory against the Charlotte Independence, while Phoenix Rising FC’s Adam Jahn took third for his deft volleyed finish against Rio Grande Valley FC at Casino Arizona Field.
