TAMPA, Fla. – New Mexico United goalkeeper Cody Mizell has earned the USL Championship Fans’ Choice Save of the Week for Week 8 of the 2019 season for his full-stretch save in last Friday night’s big Western Conference clash between NMU and the Portland Timbers 2 at Isotopes Park.
The current league-leader with 29 saves on the season, Mizell produced another fine stop to keep out a long-range effort by United States U-23 international Eryk Williamson that was headed for the left corner of the net in the second half of the top-three contest.
Mizell’s save earned 40 percent of the poll conducted online at USLChampionship.com that concluded on Friday morning. Tulsa Roughnecks FC shot-stopper Mason Stajduhar finished second with 34 percent for his one-on-one save against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC’s Andre Shinyashiki last Wednesday night at ONEOK Field, while Sacramento Republic FC’s Josh Cohen finished third with 13 percent for his full-stretch denial of Phoenix Rising FC’s Junior Flemmings last Saturday night at Papa Murphy’s Park.
