ALBUQUERQUE – Another impressive showing from New Mexico United saw them down San Antonio FC on Sunday night to jump to the top of the Western Conference standings. The hosts wasted no time getting going with forward Kevaughn Frater displaying incredible dribbling ability to get past a man before picking out a wide-open Devon Sandoval at the far post for the tap-in. Head Coach Troy Lesene’s crew would double their lead in the 59th minute as midfielder Santi Moar raced down the flank before hitting the brakes in the penalty area and squaring a pass for Chris Wehan, who finished well past San Antonio goalkeeper Matt Cardone. Four minutes later, it was Wehan’s turn again with Frater again providing the pass for the former’s second goal of the evening, a cool clip past Cardone from a narrow angle. Try as they may, but the closest San Antonio would come was via a breakaway in the 48th minute that resulted in forward Brian Gomez sprinting nearly half the field before hitting a powerful effort at New Mexico goalkeeper Cody Mizell, which he was equal to. The win gets New Mexico back on the winning path after collecting one point from their last two matches.
