Stoppage-time volley to complete hat trick against Portland took top spot in weekly poll

TAMPA, Fla. – New Mexico United forward Kevaughn Frater has earned the USL Championship Fans’ Choice Goal of the Week for Week 8 of the 2019 season for his spectacular volleyed finish that capped a hat trick against the Portland Timbers 2 last Friday night in front of 12,921 fans at Isotopes Park.

Frater had notched a pair of goals early in the second half to put New Mexico on top in the top-three Western Conference clash against T2, but the visitors had rallied back to take the lead as the game entered stoppage time. The Jamaican forward ensured his side would maintain its undefeated home record this season, however, as he powered home an opportunistic volley after the ball popped loose in the penalty area to send the club-record crowd into wild celebrations.

Frater’s goal earned 48 percent of the poll conducted online at USLChampionship.com that concluded on Thursday lunchtime. Saint Louis FC’s Audi Jepson finished second with 31 percent for his long-range blast against the Swope Park Rangers that stood as his first professional goal, while San Antonio FC’s Jack Barmby finished third with 10 percent for an outstanding curled finish in SAFC’s 3-0 victory against Tacoma Defiance.
