CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte Independence announced on Wednesday they had received 20-year-old Cameroonian defender Hassan Ndam on loan from FC Cincinnati of Major League Soccer for the remainder of the 2019 USL Championship season. FC Cincinnati reserves the right to recall Ndam, and the loan is pending U.S. P-1 Visa approval.

The 6-foot-4 center back was selected by FC Cincinnati from the New York Red Bulls in the 2018 MLS Expansion Draft last December. In the past two seasons, Ndam was loaned to USL Championship side the New York Red Bulls II where he made 58 appearances and helped the side make back-to-back appearances in the Eastern Conference Final of the USL Cup Playoffs.

In 2018, Ndam led the Red Bulls II in all defensive categories, recording 57 interceptions, 109 clearances, 165 duels won and 94 aerial duels. A top, rising talent, Ndam was named a finalist for the USL Championship’s Young Player of the Year award and was selected to Championship’s 20 Under 20 list of the top young talent in the league.

The Independence return to action this Saturday when they visit Hartford Athletic at Rentschler Field.
