Newly-signed Austin Bold FC defender Demar Phillips has appeared in three editions of the Concacaf Gold Cup for Jamaica.

AUSTIN, Texas – Austin Bold FC has announced the signing of Jamaican international Demar Philips to its 2019 USL Championship roster as the club adds to its defensive depth with the experienced left-sided player. Philips brings 15 years of experience in both Europe and Major League Soccer to Austin.

“Demar is a very experienced player, that brings fantastic speed and ball work to our offensive side,” said Bold FC Head Coach Marcelo Serrano. “We are fortunate and happy that he accepted the offer to come play in USL for Austin Bold.”

Phillips began his career in Jamaica, and made his international debut for his country, before joining Stoke City FC in 2007. After two seasons in England he joined Norwegian club Aalesunds FK, and it was there that the Jamaican made his mark as he helped the side lift the Norwegian Cup in 2009 and 2011 and made 120 appearances overall in a six-year stint at the club.

Internationally, the 35-year-old has made 62 appearances for Jamaica in his career and was named in the squad for the Gold Cup on three occasions in addition to appearances in FIFA World Cup Qualifying. More recently, Philips made more than 65 appearances in Major League Soccer for Real Salt Lake and on loan in the Championship for Real Monarchs SLC.

Austin Bold FC also announced that midfielder Marcelo Saragosa had transitioned into a post-playing career to become Bold FC’s Director of Soccer Operations. Saragosa brings more than 15 years of playing experience to his new role with the front office. Additionally, the club and Argentine midfielder Dario Conca mutually agreed to part ways so that Conca can pursue other soccer opportunities.
