Point-blank save that served as highlight in shutout performance claims top spot in weekly poll

TAMPA, Fla. – ATL UTD 2 goalkeeper Dylan Castanheira has earned the USL Championship Fans’ Choice Save of the Week for Week 6 of the 2019 season for his standout reflex stop that helped his side claim victory on the road against Memphis 901 FC in the USL Championship Game of the Week on ESPN last Wednesday night at AutoZone Park.

A former standout at Columbia University, Castanheira produced a remarkable eight-save shutout on the road that was highlighted by his 67th-minute save that denied Memphis’ Jacob Hauser-Ramsey an equalizer with a point-blank header off a corner kick.

Castanheira’s save earned 41 percent of the poll conducted online at USLChampionship.com that concluded on Friday morning. Birmingham Legion FC’s Matt Van Oekel finished second on 38 percent for his stoppage-time denial of Saint Louis FC’s Joaquin Rivas that preserved a 3-2 road victory for his side, while the Tampa Bay Rowdies’ John McCarthy finished third on 11 percent for a tremendous diving stop that keep out a powerful header by Louisville City FC’s Taylor Peay.
