TAMPA, Fla. – Hartford Athletic forward Jose Angulo has earned the USL Championship Fans’ Choice Goal of the Week for Week 6 of the 2019 season after marked his return to Highmark Stadium with a spectacular strike against former club Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC that landed at the No. 2 spot on last Saturday night’s SportsCenter Top 10.
Angulo scored the first goal in Highmark Stadium’s history in 2013 as a member of Hounds and went on that season to claim the Championship’s Most Valuable Player award. The native of Colombia returned with the Athletic this past weekend and produced a remarkable finish that saw him turn his marker after controlling on his chest from a goal kick and then unleash a looping finish from 35 yards that picked out the left corner of the net.
Angulo’s goal earned 31 percent of the poll conducted online at USLChampionship.com that concluded on Thursday lunchtime. Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC’s Kevin Kerr finished second on 24 percent for his curling finish that proved the winner for the Hounds in their home opener, while Fresno FC’s Jemal Johnson finished third with 20 percent for his long-range finish against Tulsa Roughnecks FC last Saturday night.
