ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – New Mexico United’s undefeated start to its inaugural campaign continued in rousing fashion on Saturday night as it romped past Real Monarchs SLC 5-1 in front of a crowd of 12,327 fans at Isotopes Park. Here are three key talking points coming out of the contest.

• MOAR GOALS: Having claimed the USL Championship Player of the Month award for March on Thursday, Santi Moar began his bid for April’s honor with a first-half hat trick that wrapped up with a pair of clinical finishes that helped the hosts take a big cushion into the halftime break. Remarkably, Moar’s seven goals for the season have surpassed his single-season totals in both of his two seasons with Bethlehem Steel FC just seven games into the campaign. Continuing at a pace of a goal-a-game would be remarkable, but as many chances as he’s getting there could be much more to come.

• ON THE BOARD: Chris Wehan built his reputation in the Championship two seasons ago as a creator, but it will have been pleasing for everyone within United’s organization to see the former University of New Mexico Lobo score his first goal for the club to cap off the victory with 11 minutes to go. Having already provided the assists on Santi Moar’s second and third goals of the night, if Wehan can round into form as well after struggling with some injuries to start the season it’s only going to make New Mexico’s attack more potent.

• ROAD WOES: Lest we forget, Real Monarchs SLC took the lead on Saturday night thanks to Jack Blake’s well-taken finish in the 16th minute, but from almost that moment on the road struggles returned as the Monarchs suffered their second consecutive away defeat. One of the top home teams in the league once again this season, Real went only 6-10-1 away from home a season ago which dropped them out of contention for top seed in the Western Conference postseason down the final stretch of the campaign. Finding a way to replicate their attacking prowess on the road is going to be key if the Monarchs are going to be more than middle of the pack again.
