TAMPA, Fla. – New Mexico United midfielder Santi Moar has been voted the USL Championship’s Player of the Month for March as he recorded four goals for the expansion side as it ran through its first month in the Championship with an undefeated record.
A former standout for Bethlehem Steel FC over the past two seasons, Moar was one of New Mexico’s marquee signings as it prepared for its inaugural season. The 25-year-old Spaniard lived up to his billing in NMU’s opening five games of the season, recording four goals and one assist while also notching seven key passes to rank second on the side in that category.
“Being named player of the month is a huge honor, and I think it is a reflection of the great work that my teammates and coaches have been putting in since day one,” said Moar. “New Mexico United has provided me the platform, confidence and support I needed, and I couldn't be happier to represent these colors.”
Moar received 47 percent of a weighted poll that included the USL Championship Technical Committee, a national panel of independent media representing every USL market and an online fan vote held at USLChampionship.com. Tulsa Roughnecks FC’s Luca Lobo finished second on 38 percent after recording five goals and one assist to help his side equal its win total from the 2018 season in the opening month of the campaign, while Reno 1868 FC’s Brian Brown finished third after recording four goals in three games for his side.
