ATL UTD 2 steal the show against Memphis; Orange County scores four in win against Tacoma

In the ESPN Game of the Week on ESPNews Wednesday night, Atlanta United 2 clung to a narrow win over Memphis 901 FC to spoil the party in front of the home crowd. Out west, Orange County SC pulled off a remarkable four-goal outing to defeat the Tacoma Defiance for their second win of the season.

ORANGE COUNTY SC (4) VS TACOMA DEFIANCE (0)

IRVINE, Calif. – Three second-half goals piled onto an opening tally from the first half as Orange County SC scored four goals in their win over Tacoma Defiance. Pushing ahead, forward Darwin Jones put OC ahead in the 28th minute when he received a pass from midfielder Aodhan Quinn before shaking a defender and firing past Tacoma goalkeeper Jacob Castro for his team’s first. Orange County would double their lead in the 71st minute when defenders Walker Hume and Leonardo combined for the latter to tap-home from close range. Piling forward, Orange County scored their third in the 85th minute after tidy team play saw substitute forward Vinicius slide a pass in for forward Michael Seaton dead center of goal, and Seaton had little more to do to add another goal on the night. The finishing touches were put on in the 89th minute as Vinicius turned provider to scorer, finishing off a pass by Jerry van Ewijk to help earn the team’s second win of the season.

Aodhan Quinn, Orange County SC – Quinn completed nearly 80% of his passes and created two chances while tallying one assist in Orange County’s win.

MEMPHIS 901 FC (0) VS ATLANTA UNITED 2 (1)

MEMPHIS – A goal from Kevin Barajas near halftime tipped the scales for ATL UTD 2 at AutoZone Park in Memphis. The visitors started with the lion’s share of the ball but Memphis created more chances in the opening period of play. Forward Elliot Collier was denied on a pair of chances, including one that resulted in a goal line clearance by Jose Hernandez in the 12th minute and another that prompted a good save by ATL UTD 2 goalkeeper Dylan Castanheira after a nervy giveaway. Finding their foot near the end of the first half, the visitors took the lead on a goal by Kevin Barajas. ATL UTD 2 midfielder Laurent Kiessiedou settled a loose ball into the box for Barajas to eventually latch onto, and his shot on goal was nearly kept out by 901 FC netminder Jeff Caldwell but would cross the line to give his side the advantage. Memphis would nearly find an equalizer after 67 minutes when Memphis defender Jacob Hauser-Ramsey latched onto a corner and powered a header on goal only for Castanheira to produce a fine save on the line. Another chance for the hosts would come just eight minutes later when a ball rolled across for forward Rashawn Dally, but his effort rolled wide of the post and that’s the closest Memphis would come to scoring.
