Rising FC’s shot-stopper takes top spot in poll for second time this season

TAMPA, Fla. – Phoenix Rising FC goalkeeper Carl Woszczynski has earned the USL Championship Fans’ Choice Save of the Week for Week 4 of the 2019 season for his full-stretch save against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC last Saturday night at Casino Arizona Field. The save was one of seven made by the veteran on the night, which moved Woszczynski into first all-time in saves in the Championship’s history.

Woszczynski – who had also claimed the award in Week 1 of the 2019 regular season – kept the game level with 16 minutes to go against the Switchbacks as he denied Matt Hundley with a diving stop that turned the long-range effort around his right post. Woszcznyski now sits with 388 regular-season saves in the Championship’s regular season, having surpassed Nick Noble on 387 for the all-time lead.

Woszczynski’s save earned 55 percent of the poll conducted online at USLChampionship.com that concluded on Friday morning. Austin Bold FC’s Diego Restrepo finished second on 24 percent for his denial of San Antonio FC’s Jack Barmby in last Saturday’s Copa Tejas clash, while Louisville City FC’s Ben Lundt finished third on 16 percent for his second-effort stop to deny Birmingham Legion FC’s Brian Wright.
