TAMPA, Fla. – North Carolina FC midfielder Tommy McCabe has earned the USL Championship Fans’ Choice Goal of the Week for Week 4 of the 2019 season after his picture-perfect left-footed volley earned North Carolina FC a 1-1 draw against Charleston Battery took top spot in the weekly online poll.
The 21-year-old – who was previously named to the USL Championship Team of the Week for Week 1 – scored the stellar equalizer during closing seconds when the Battery gave up a free kick on the edge of the penalty area. Although the initial delivery was cleared to the top of the penalty area, McCabe was waiting to effortlessly execute a volley that would send the ball into the left corner of the net. The goal allowed North Carolina FC to remain undefeated during the 2019 season.
McCabe’s goal earned 42 percent of the poll conducted online at USLChampionship.com that concluded on Thursday lunchtime. Tulsa Roughneck FC’s Fabian Bastidas finished second with 33 percent for his brilliant blast from 25 yards that picked out the top-right corner in the Roughnecks’ Friday-night victory against Rio Grande Valley FC, while Phoenix Rising FC’s Adam Jahn finished third on 17 percent for his diving header against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC.
