Two stoppage-time goals brought OKC back to earn a vital point

RENO, Nev. – OKC Energy FC rallied from a three-goal deficit to earn a 3-3 draw with Reno 1868 FC at Greater Nevada Field on Saturday evening to avoid a second consecutive defeat on the road. Here are three takeaways from the contest:

  • NEVER SAY DIE: After suffering a lopsided defeat to Sacramento Republic FC a week ago it was looking like déjà vu for OKC Energy FC when it went down three goals inside the opening hour against Reno 1868 FC. This time around, however, the visitors produced a gutsy comeback display capped off by two goals in stoppage time that somehow salvaged a point from what looked like an impossible situation. Putting together a comeback of that kind showed the sort of resolve that Energy FC missed at times last season and ensured it avoided what would have been bad back-to-back defeats.

  • NEW BOYS COME GOOD: There were plenty of new faces brought in by Energy FC to try and help Head Coach Steve Cooke turn around the club’s fortunes from a season ago, and two of them came to the fore during the comeback. Alexis Bosetti and Omar Gordon both notched a goal and assist on the night, with Gordon’s both coming in stoppage time as he notched the 94th minute equalizer after setting up Christian Eissele two minutes prior for OKC’s second goal. Both Bosetti and Gordon bring the sort of pedigree that should put them front and center if Energy FC is going to have success this season, and on Saturday they came good at just the right time.

  • FAMILIAR FEELING: If Energy FC was on the verge of a flashback to earlier this season, it ended up being Reno that experienced it at the final whistle as it failed to hold a multi-goal lead in front of its home fans for a second time in 2019. Three fine goals that saw Reno expose the gaps in OKC's midfield should have been enough for 1868 FC to take victory, but as in its opening game of the season against Orange County SC the hosts squandered their advantage. Reno comes away from this game still undefeated, but once again having left points on the table.
