Spectacular bicycle kick that landed on SportsCenter Top 10 scores in weekly poll

TAMPA, Fla. – Portland Timbers 2 midfielder Dairon Asprilla has earned the USL Championship Fans’ Choice Goal of the Week for Week 3 of the 2019 season after his incredible bicycle-kick finish that capped T2’s victory on Saturday night at Merlo Field took top spot in the weekly online poll.

The experienced Colombian had already put in a stellar display to help Portland hold the advantage going to the final 15 minutes against Las Vegas Lights FC, but in the 76th minute he produced a brilliant piece of control that moved effortlessly into a bicycle kick from 16 yards that picked out the top-left corner of the net. The goal sealed a second consecutive win for T2, which sits tied on points for the lead in the Western Conference entering this weekend’s action.

Asprilla’s goal earned 45 percent of the poll conducted online at USLChampionship.com that concluded on Thursday lunchtime. Sacramento Republic FC’s Cameron Iwasa finished second with 27 percent for his tremendous volleyed finish to complete a first-half hat trick against OKC Energy FC last Sunday afternoon, while Rio Grande Valley FC’s Romilio Hernandez finished third with 15 percent for his outstanding long-range strike that sparked the Toros’ comeback against El Paso Locomotive FC last Saturday night.
