SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sacramento Republic FC added more experience to its defense on Friday with the signing of defender Jordan McCrary for the 2019 USL Championship season with a club option for 2020. The signing is pending league and federation approval.

“Jordan is a welcome addition to our backline with his versatility, especially at left back,” said Republic FC General Manager Todd Dunivant. “We value his national championship-winning pedigree, as well as his MLS experience, including the Concacaf Champions League and playoffs. Jordan brings a lot to the table and we look forward to his integration into the team.”

McCrary joins Republic FC after spending the 2018 season with Major League Soccer’s Seattle Sounders FC. The fullback, who can play on either wing, made 20 appearances for Sounders FC across all competitions last season, including league play, MLS Cup playoffs and the Concacaf Champions League. McCrary also made four appearances on loan with Tacoma Defiance in the Championship, including their September 2018 match against Republic FC at Papa Murphy’s Park.

Prior to his arrival in Seattle, McCrary spent the 2017 season with Toronto FC II, playing alongside current Republic FC defender Mitchell Taintor. McCrary started 19 of his 27 appearances for the Canadian side, tallying two assists in that span.

Born in Alpharetta, Georgia, McCrary attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he helped the Tar Heels to an NCAA College Cup during his freshman year. He was the 10th overall selection in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft by the New England Revolution, and appeared in two Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup matches for the club.

OPOKU LINKS UP WITH LEGION: Birmingham Legion FC announced on Thursday it had acquired Columbus Crew SC forward Edward Opoku on a season-long loan. Opoku may be recalled by Columbus from the loan spell at any time during the season.

“Eddie is another key attacking piece that we’re excited to add to the group,” said Legion FC President and General Manager Jay Heaps. “We’re happy to have Eddie join the team, and we want to get him acclimated as quickly as we can.”

Opoku was selected by Crew SC with the ninth pick (32nd overall) of the Second Round in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft. To date, the 22-year-old Ghanaian forward has made five regular-season appearances (one start) for Columbus.

Prior to joining Crew SC, Opoku attended the University of Virginia from 2015-2017, making 53 appearances (all starts) while registering 16 goals and nine assists. In three years in Charlottesville, he earned three all-conference honors, making two All-ACC Second Teams and one All-ACC Third Team.

BATTERY SIGN JAMAICAN U-20 INTERNATIONAL: The Charleston Battery announced on Friday the club had signed Jamaican U-20 international forward Nicque Daley, who is set to join the team for the 2019 USL Championship season pending league and federation approval.

Daley joins the Battery after playing Jamaican Schoolboy Football at Clarendon College and Cavalier SC of the Jamaican National Premier League. During Daley’s 2018 season at Clarendon College he scored 21 goals to lead the team to an undefeated record as it lifted the Olivier Shield and DaCosta Cup. The 18-year-old made fourteen appearances for Cavalier SC, scoring two goals for the club.

Daley has made six appearances for the U-17 Jamaican National team and was a key contributor in Jamaica's U-20 side in the 2018 CONCACAF U-20 Championship held last November at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. Daley scored six goals over five matches while adding two assists. Daley led the team in shots (24) and scored four goals in a win over Saint Martin in November.
