Former Albuquerque Sol FC midfielder Sergio Rivas competed at the 2019 MLS Combine before being selected by the San Jose Earthquakes with the No. 26 selection in this year's SuperDraft.
RENO, Nev. – Reno 1868 FC announced on Wednesday it had signed midfielder Sergio Rivas, pending league and federation approval.
Rivas joins 1868 FC after being selected by the San Jose Earthquakes with the No. 26 pick in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft.
“Sergio is a player who we followed for a few years in college, he’s very versatile and has a great work rate,” Reno Head Coach Ian Russell said Wednesday. “He’s a box-to-box midfielder with a great engine and we’re excited to have him.”
A former player for USL League Two’s Albuquerque Sol FC, Rivas also competed collegiately Seattle University prior to being drafted. Rivas appeared in 85 games, scored 19 goals and notched 27 assists for the Redhawks, and in his senior season scored four goals and was fourth in the nation in assists with 11.
