Standout save against San Antonio helped Rising FC earn point on the road

TAMPA, Fla. – Phoenix Rising FC goalkeeper Carl Woszczynski has claimed the USL Championship Fans’ Choice Save of the Week for Week 1 of the 2019 season thanks to a strong low save against San Antonio FC that helped Rising FC claim a point in its season-opener on the road at Toyota Field.

Phoenix was down by a goal entering stoppage time in the second half last Saturday night when host San Antonio FC had a chance to ice the game. SAFC’s Billy Forbes got in and unleashed a shot from the right side of the penalty area, but Woszczynski was equal to the challenge to keep his side’s deficit at one goal late. Moment later, Jason Johnson provided the equalizer as Phoenix opened the defense of its Western Conference championship with a 3-3 draw.

Woszczynski’s save earned 37 percent of the poll conducted online at USLChampionship.com that concluded on Friday morning. New Mexico United’s Cody Mizell finished second on 35 percent for a diving save to his left that denied Fresno’s Jemal Johnson, while Saint Louis FC’s Jake Fenlason finished third with 13 percent for his outstanding penalty-kick against Indy Eleven.
