OTTAWA – Ottawa Fury FC announced on Thursday the return of former goalkeeper Callum Irving to the club. The Canadian native spent the last two seasons in Ottawa and is the club’s third goalkeeper to join the fight for a starting role with Fury FC this season.

Irving joined Ottawa in 2017 after spending the 2016 season in the USL Championship with Rio Grande Valley FC, where he also spent time on loan with Major League Soccer’s Houston Dynamo. Irving played every minute of the 2017 regular season for Ottawa, posting seven shutouts and a 65.5 save percentage. In honor of his efforts, the Vancouver, B.C. native was awarded with the Fury Fans’ Player of the Year while also sharing the Newcomer of the Year award with Sergio Manesio.

Last season Irving served as back-up to Maxime Crépeau, who set a new Championship record with 15 clean sheets on his way to winning the league’s Goalkeeper of the Year award. Irving featured in two regular-season contests and the CapCity Cup in 2018.

A graduate of the Vancouver Whitecaps FC Academy (2007-12), Irving has competed for Canada at the U18, U20 and full national team level. He earned his first call-up with Canada’s Men National Team for an International Friendly match against the United States in January of 2016 and has also featured in goal in 2017 against Bermuda in an international friendly match.

The 6-foot-1 goalkeeper played four years at the collegiate level at the University of Kentucky, NCAA Division 1. He was a two-year team captain, two-time Conference Player of the Year (Conference USA), two-time NSCAA All-American and two-time NSCAA All-American Scholar.
