LAS VEGAS – Much like its home city of Las Vegas, Lights FC knows how to put on a show.

From marriage proposals at practice to helicopters dropping $5,000 in cold hard cash at halftime, the club has shown a willingness to push the boundaries in pursuit of entertainment over its first 18 months of existence.

And while the on-field product didn’t match that level of excitement in 2018, Lights FC owner Brett Lashbrook believes that will change in 2019 under new Head Coach Eric Wynalda.

Better yet, he guarantees it.

On Monday, Lashbrook did his best Mark Messier impression by proclaiming that Lights FC will win its season opener against expansion side Austin Bold FC on Saturday (10:30 p.m. ET | ESPN+) at Cashman Field.

And as one often does in Las Vegas, he raised the stakes: If Lights FC fails to pick up all three points against Bold FC, every fan in attendance will get a free ticket to the team’s next home match.

“I am putting my money where my mouth is – that’s how confident I am that season two is going to be great,” Lashbrook said. “We’re taking this action today to make sure our fans know our level of confidence, too.”

After earning an eye-opening 5-1 victory over Major League Soccer’s Toronto FC during its unbeaten preseason campaign, there is plenty for Lashbrook and Lights FC fans to be confident about heading into their second season in the USL Championship.

Whether Wynalda’s retooled squad can turn that momentum into regular-season results remains to be seen, but there’s certainly a sense that Las Vegas’ on-field product is closer than ever to matching its promotional pizazz.

“We are not the same Lights FC from the 2018 season,” Lashbrook said. “I hope this helps get the attention of all sports fans in Las Vegas. We plan on big things this season – come join us as we start the ride to become 2019 USL Cup Champions!”

Bold move Brett, bold move.
