Caldwell arrives from NYCFC, Dally from FCC, club also signs English midfielder Holness

Former United States U-20 National Team goalkeeper Jeff Caldwell has joined Memphis 901 FC on loan for the 2019 USL Championship season from New York City FC.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis 901 FC announced on Tuesday the arrival of three new players for the 2019 USL Championship season, adding New York City FC goalkeeper Jeff Caldwell and FC Cincinnati forward Rashawn Dally on loan for the club’s inaugural season while also signing midfielder Damani Holness.

Caldwell was selected by New York City FC with the 19th pick in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft out of the University of Virginia. Considered one of the top young goalkeeper prospects in the United States, Caldwell earned back-to-back Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) honors in 2015 and 2016 and was part of the United States U-20 National Team that competed at the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

“[Caldwell] is one of the up and coming young goalkeepers in professional soccer here in the United States,” 901 FC Head Coach Tim Mulqueen said. “I’ve known him as a youth international and college player. I’m very excited to get the opportunity to work him on the professional level.”

Dally was selected with the 49th overall pick in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft and signed by FC Cincinnati on February 6. He begins his professional career in Memphis after a stellar four-year career at Quinnipiac University, where Dally started in 77 of the 78 games he played and notched 16 goals and 15 assists over his career. Internationally, Dally has attracted interest from the Jamaican National Team, earning an invite for the team’s camp in March 2018.

“Rashawn is an exceptional talent that can play a number of attacking spots,” said Mulqueen. “He possesses great power and speed. And with a combination of great technique, he should be very exciting for our fans to watch.”

Holness was signed by 901 FC following a successful preseason trial with the club. He joins the club following a brief stint with English club Macclesfield Town F.C.

“We’re very excited to sign Damani Holness,” 901 FC Sporting Director Andrew Bell said. “He joined us for the first part of our preseason. His work ethic and attitude are superb along with being a very good player.”
